Why your Body Needs Vitamin B-12
B-12 deficiency can sometimes result in more than a lack of energy. With all the hectic demands of today, most people could use more energy. However, if you consistently experience exhaustion, irritability, forgetfulness or brain fog, it may be a sign of something more serious. In fact, any of these conditions could be a sign of B-12 deficiency.
Every “body” can lose B vitamins
There are many things in today’s world that can lead to a B vitamin deficiency. Stress is one cause. It comes in many forms – mental, physical, emotional and environmental – and it creates a demand for Vitamin B-12 within the body that’s greater than what a typical diet can supply. Similarly, certain prescription medications can cause Vitamin B-12 depletion just as easily as stress.
Diets can also lead to a deficiency in the B-12 vitamin. Most people get their B-12 vitamins from animal food products, so vegetarians and those with nutritionally poor diets greatly increase their chances of being deficient. Digestion problems are yet another cause of B-12 deficiencies. Gastric bypass surgeries, gastric reflux, IBS, colitis and other digestive conditions inhibit the body’s absorption of B-12 from foods. On top of this, your body’s ability to absorb B vitamins can start as early as age 40 and dramatically decrease every passing year.
Because there are so many ways to become Vitamin B-12 deficient, it’s important to aggressively help protect against and/or repair a deficiency.
If you think you may have the signs of B-12 deficiency, then ask yourself the following questions:
* Do I lack energy and feel tired much of the time?
* Do I feel depressed or blue much of the time?
* Have I been under a lot of stress lately?
* Do I have brain fog or difficulty concentrating?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, chances are you’re experiencing a B-vitamin deficiency – and need to take immediate steps to remedy it. Don’t wait – because not taking care of this health risk can lead to other serious conditions.

The Science of Sublingual
The Science of Sublingual
The word “sublingual” literally means “under the tongue.” It refers to a method of administering substances in the mouth so that they can be rapidly absorbed into the blood vessels. The substance is absorbed through the buccal mucosa and into the sublingual vein where it has direct access to the blood circulation and is then carried throughout the whole body. Medical science has been using this method for years in the administration of cardiovascular drugs, steroids, and some barbiturates. The sublingual method has been life-saving for individuals who have had to rely on its speed and efficiency during times of critical emergency.
Here is why you might not be getting your B-12 with those other vitamins!
When the B-12 vitamin enters your body in the stomach (through food or oral pills), acids in the stomach separate the B-12 from its protein source. It then must combine with intrinsic factor cells in the stomach. This B-12/intrinsic factor complex travels to your intestine, where it is absorbed in the terminal ileum. The absorbed complex is then transported via blood plasma and stored in the liver.
The interruption of any of these steps affects your body’s ability to absorb B-12. Here is a list of common interruptions to B-12 absorption:
1. As you age (over 45) or become overly reliant on acid suppressing agents like antacids, your ability to produce gastric acids in the stomach decreases, meaning that the B-12 is less likely to be released from its food source.
2. An autoimmune or other disease reduces the production or blocks the action of intrinsic factor, resulting in intestinal mal-absorption.
3. People with pernicious anemia have decreased production of intrinsic factor.
4. Abdominal surgery reduces B-12 absorption.
* Gastrectomy eliminates the site of intrinsic factor production.
* Blind loop syndrome results in competition for vitamin B-12 by bacterial overgrowth in the lumen of the small intestine.
* Surgical resection of the ileum eliminates the site of vitamin B-12 absorption.
5. Pancreatic insufficiency such as fish tapeworm infection and severe Crohn's disease affect absorption.
Not all substances are easily absorbed sublingually, if at all. A substance’s ability to be absorbed is affected by lipid solubility, the permeability of the solution, ionization (pH), and the molecular weight of the substance. Dr. Libby’s extensive background in biochemistry and nutrition, along with his years of study with Nobel Prize chemist, Linus Pauling, make his patented Sublingual B-12 formula second to none. Various medical trials have proven to deliver up to 98% B-12 absorption, where oral tablets have as little as 2%.
TriVita works hard to ensure that your tablets are the safest, freshest, and most effective sublingual tablets available on the market today. Each box of Dr. Libby's original, patented Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid is made under the strictest quality controls in the nutritional supplement industry. All manufacturing and laboratory processes meet or exceed the most current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as published by the Food and Drug Administration in March of 2003.
